I’d be surprised if you didn’t see me posting about my birthday turning 39 over this past holiday weekend all over my social media feed.
I had such an incredible long birthday/holiday weekend! It was probably one of my most favorite birthday celebration weekends. It was right up there with past celebrations in Vegas or the time my husband flew in over 30 of my extended family members to surprise me for my 30th!
This weekend was simply perfect down to my cake!
Check out the Mom Queen red velvet cupcake cake my hubby surprised me with! It was yummy! It was even better as a symbol of acknowledgment and appreciation of celebrating my hard work this past year. It really filled my heart when I opened this box. This was me. All my doing. The endless hours I put behind this keyboard and the effort I put into blogging and the boutique is seriously hours on end, and I absolutley LOVE it and to know it’s appreciated and added to the celebration … of me, was PERFECT!
Besides the cake, what really made it so great was the people. We didn’t do anything out of the ordinary or special, like invite a ton of extra people up, or we didn’t really plan anything out of the ordinary that we don’t do for the holiday weekend so I had a hard time thinking of what exactly made last weekend so enjoyable. It was the spirit of my friends and the effort EVERY ONE of them put in to have me smiling all day.
After the weekend came to end and everyone was gone the boys were STILL sleeping until NOON on Sunday and Zoli and I enjoyed coffee and breakfast recapping the weekend fun. Still laughing at the funny moments and really being thankful for what turned out to be one of BOTH of our favorite weekends in books of the many years we’ve been up at the lake.
It was because everyone around me put in the effort to add to my day. My friend Garrett made brisket and ribs for the long weekend of lunches on the water. Rob came in to help Zoli drive the toys and make sure my cup was never empty. (Not to mention his hand made gift, oh my gosh I hope you caught this on my story this past weekend! Hilarious!) My girls Janetta and Annie were always making sure dinner and dishes were picked up. Zoli got up early to make breakfast and load the million laundry load of of towels I normally do every weekend. My friend Angie and Jeff had us Thursday night to shoot off our boxes of crazy fireworks so I wouldn’t upset my lake house neighbors again and deal with that mess. 😉 My dock mates Jeannine and Aron bought out the guy selling neon gadgets in the marina to make the kids (and adults) night and hosted the UFC fight on the doc to make the night of the fireworks filled with extra fun.
From the food, the company, to driving over to the Oklahoma side for a sunset cruise & dinner, to the cake, to even Saturday morning when it started storming for a few hours on the water that was the cause of everyone going in to the docs to chill on the boats and enjoy the temporary cool breeze hanging out together. Everything was perfect, especially the people.
Not gonna lie, some weekends at the lake can be really stressful for me and the hubs. When you host constantly the cooking, cleaning, groceries, and work people don’t see to host and have what brings the fun can get stressful and exhausting. Adding extra people to that mix can actually add even more.
My husband asked me a the week prior if I wanted to invite more than the norm out and all I said was “I don’t care, either way”. I was mostly concerned with people driving late night on a holiday weekend. Well time ran short, and my mom had a big surgery the Friday before, so actually I didn’t even know until last minute if I wasn’t going to take off last minute to Detroit or not. So we ended up just going with the flow and NOT planning anything actually and look how it ended… perfect!
Sometimes having all the extra and preparing so much causes ALL the stress and drama. On Monday evening it was confirmed I was staying in town but I told Zoli I didn’t want to plan anything. I ran to Costco Monday night after and just LOOKING and THINKING of planning all the food for the weekend gave me anxiety! OMG after 2 aisles my cart was full, I was stressed, wanted to go home and have a glass of wine or 2! Holy Cow! SO I left! Left with whatever was in my cart at the moment and left. That was the END of my planning all weekend. I knew I wanted to spend the days on the water and take a sunset cruise one night and that was it. That was the extent of my planning and GOSH it made things so much easier!
I can name a few birthdays that turned into stress and drama because all the planning. This was a nice change and it was ALL because of my friends and family that made it so realizing and fun. Thank You!
Saturday morning I sat on my deck and had my coffee like I normally do at the lake and made a list of 39 things I was most Thankful for, my friends and family are on the top of my list. I’m blessed to have and have had so many in my life, and each one in some way or another add to …. me. My happy.
Still on a happy high from the weekend, well after all it’s my birthday month right?
Contradictory to what Zoli says I can really celebrate all month right?! 😉 Its not over yet, right? ;)-
After all there are still spa days with my girlfriends to be had and wine night with my friends come by to celebrate! haha! Sorry hubs! lol
Now I will spend my last 11 months of 30’s PREPARING and STRESSING to make up for the drama free birthday weekend as I PLAN one heck of a 40th in NAPA with ALL the EXTRAS that I love! ;)- hehe!
I hope your 4th of July was just as relaxing and fun as it was for us! There’s not a holiday I love more than the 4th, and as always it went by so quickly! It took me until yesterday for the boys and I to recoup and get back into routine. I hope you Queens have fallen back into routine after a long weekend of fun in the sun with your families!
Happy Tuesday Mom Queens!
