Hello! My name is Melissa. Thanks for stopping by and welcome to my blog. I’m so glad your here!
Let me take a quick minute and tell you a little about me:
I was born and raised in Detroit, as much as I am a proud “Detroiter”, I’m even more proud to call myself a transplant Texan! Thats right, a true Texan now for 16 yrs, and currently reside in Dallas with my husband and two boys. My husbands a hardworking entrepreneur and my day job is not only full time mom, but I own and operate a real estate brokerage that focuses on investment and property management. Basically I’ve got mad skills when it comes to problem solving through life’s issues!
By no means am I professional writer/author, I could actually be classified as one of the world’s worst when it comes to grammar and spelling! (Good thing I decided to a do a blog, right?) So please give me some slack in the grammar category *Full Disclosure- I am NOT a professional*. I just know I love to journal and share my secrets to making every day life a little more easy … and fun. Whether that’s by beauty tricks I’ve discovered in walking the runway or sitting in some MAJORLY talented make-up artist chairs. Or tools on how to optimize your time in the gym as a life time successful pageant veteran, swim suit competitor, and world wide auto show narrator. I’ve trained for ALLOT of competitions and have been blessed to work with some of the best trainers, coaches, and staff in the biz! Or maybe your just like me and OBSESSED with home decor, shopping, organizing, and … your family!
Which brings me to the wide range of topics I’ll be covering on my blog:
STRENGTH: HEALTH & BEAUTY
I love fitness, make up, and a healthy lifestyle. I’ve walked New York runways for lead designers (yea, back in the day, but heck- still counts right? ;)) I’ve toured in Fash Bash and with the International Auto Show circuit, I’ve been an athlete all my life, and OBSESSED with everything accessory, diet, and make up! I’m hoping I can share some tips with you, and vice versa with your comments and feedback!
SPICE: EVERYTHING MOM
From cooking, organizing, home decor, kids, I’m always on the go striving to be the best mom and wife I can possibly be. Details matter to me, allot! I’ve got 2 boys, Trae & Van, they are 10 &6. Boy, Oh boy, are they a handful! I think being a mom is when I started to learn the most about life! Well, at least for what truly matters… the little things. I’ve been married to my husband for 12 years, we’ve been together 16, hence why I became a Texan! I like to think that not only do I just drive him crazy, but I balance him. He’s a very hardworking, driven guy, with a HUGE amount of responsibility. Because so, and because he’s always SO stressed, I like to try and take care of everything else so all he has to focus on is work. Frankly because, I don’t think his plate could handle any more. So I’ve perfected my mad mom skills and hope to share some with you!
SPARKLE, SPARKLE, SPARKLE: ALL Things Pageant!
Yes, I said pageant! For those of you that don’t know me personally, I’m a pageant veteran. I started at the age of 17 in the Miss USA organization and always placed in top 5 – this actually payed for some of my schooling AND opened the modeling door for me when I was crowned a Miss Michigan title back in the day. It was a snowball into the modeling world for me. I competed for 5 yrs placing against HUNDREDS of girls that were so “IN” the pageant world. When I say “IN” I mean experienced, knowledgable, they had coaches, thousand dollar gowns plus, and well myself, I had about $100 dress and could barley walk in heels. I had NO idea what I was in for or what I was doing, but whatever I did do, I must have been doing a few things right to place over 400 girls sometimes. WHICH fast forward a few years, I was having a hard time getting pregnant, I was so FOCUSED on becoming a mom after being married, that I over focused. My mom, heard of a “MRS.” pageant. Turns out they are a HUGE thing, especially here in Texas. So I went for it! I got pregnant- TWICE! The distraction of preparing was just what I needed (Mom’s always right *eye roll*) Fast Forward 10 years- I’ve captured The Mrs. Texas title not just once but TWICE! The only one in history so far actually. I’ve placed TOP 3 in the Big 3, of NATIONAL pageants. I’ve also won the title of Mrs. Texas United States, and just last year the prestigious title of serving as Mrs. International! I’ve had a pretty successful pageant career, especially as a Mrs.. I feel if I would’ve had the money or knowledge, at least the knowledge of ALL the things I’ve learned over my pageant career back when I was 17! Game changer! That’s exactly what I want to use some of this blog for too, is pageant tips. With my experience I can offer some useful insight, like representing and respecting different brands, and for those that can’t afford a coach (NO, I do NOT want to coach!) give some useful FREE tips that I’ve learned under a state and national title. You’d be surprised how these tips can help you in everyday too *cough, cough*, for those reading that are not in the sparkle world!
So welcome! Browse around! I hope you find SOMETHING that helps you survive YOUR everyday with a little more STRENGTH, SPICE, and SPARKLE! Or if theres something you want to ask, please do, I’m open to writing topics!
Enjoy,
Melissa
