This past weekend was very busy and eventful, I had a small road trip to the Mrs. Texas pageant for 2 days and then headed back north for the Children’s Advocacy Gala. The weekend was full of inspiration, both giving and receiving. It made me really realize something very special: that we can unknowingly inspire others and we can secretly choose to be inspired by another.
I had several of the contestants come up to me over the weekend at the pageant and thank me for inspiring them. I can’t think of a better compliment I’ve ever received. That’s a pretty amazing feeling! To have someone you’ve never met, make it a point to tell you that YOU inspired THEM in some way or another, is pretty remarkable. At first you think, me? Why?
I’ve always hoped that my journey would inspire someone but until they say and you realize it has, it’s a totally different feeling. When I first arrived I had a few girls come to me and say how excited they were I was there and that they were hoping to meet me. Me!? Again you think to yourself, why? I’m just a girl that never gave up that’s all, but there are many of us, right? We all are. Then I thought maybe it’s because the little small piece of history I’ve made in the Texas Pageants, maybe that’s why, yea that’s cool but I don’t think that’s why, but maybe. These are girls I’ve never met, some even new to the SPARKLE world, and some not even a Mrs! That’s pretty cool, well really cool actually!
Some told me they follow me on social media, or they’ve followed my reign or SPARKLE journey, or they read my blog! Yea, they read my blogs! Eek! That’s when it REALLY made my heart happy! Ahhh, the power of social media and our technology outlets! How awesome is it that we get to inspire others that would normally be way out of reach… others we’ve never even met before!
For someone to say and validate that little ‘ol me could be an inspiration in their own path is a very fulfilling and rewarding compliment! It made me feel like the day my babies were born, or the day I walked down the isle, or the day I graduated. You know one of those days that something you’ve worked hard for you accomplish, one of those days. The thing is I wasn’t trying! Heck, I didn’t even know I would or could then and now!
That night before I went to bed I realized how fortunate we are, that I am. The fact that our actions and voices have that ability WITHOUT even knowing is something pretty amazing! It’s a gift. To know that someone appreciates your effort is even better, that your actions don’t go unnoticed but appreciated and can lift another to a goal of their own is… like a crazy super power if you ask me.
To know that somebody didn’t give up and is trying again just because you never gave up makes you feel really good. It’s a feeling I really can’t describe. I was very honored especially from the several women that have given me one of the best compliments I could possibly ever receive. It’s also something I won’t forget because even though they Thanked me for inspiring them, the fact that they told me this and how THEY made me feel by doing so, was far greater than any amount of good I could have ever done to inspire them. I’ll never forget.
Now flip that, I couldn’t stay for the final competition of the pageant because I had to head back out of town for the Children’s Advocacy Centers Gala. The organization and it’s people mean a lot to methrough my years of advocacy and educating for child abuse awareness so I wouldn’t miss it. I didn’t want to miss the pageant either, so I tried to get as much of both as I could. When I got to the gala there was a new speaker this year, Jenna Quinn. She is the author of the book Pure in Heart and the author of Jenna’s Law! She is the survivor and advocate I’ve looked up to for years, and she has no idea!
No idea that she too has inspired someone she has never met in SO many ways! She is one of the many reasons I’m able to educate for child abuse prevention because of the law she advocated to put in place. I could go on and on, I mean I’ve read her books, followed her journey, and not going to lie as soon as she gave one of the most moving speeches I ran up to her like a little girl and asked for her photo. Most likely I probably creeped her out a little, embarrassingly I realize that! Lol!
Now I’ve been to many events where I see celebrities, and I mean big names but I’ve never once wanted to ask for the awkward photo and creep them out. Now I may have creeped her out just a little lol, but I knew in my heart I would regret it if I didn’t chase her down and tell her Thank You! Again, giving her that Thank You for being an inspiration to me probably meant more to me than she realizes.
I wanted her to know how much her journey inspired me, someone she’s never met, how much her actions, courage, and mission inspired me. I didn’t want that to go unsaid. Some complete stranger to her, but her journey important to me, that’s what I wanted to write this blog about! As much as she may have not known who I was she has no idea how much she’s inspired me without even knowing or trying.
Just like those new Sparkle Sisters, that introduced themselves to me and asked to take a photo and told me I inspired them. There’s so much power and inspiration out there in our actions that others witness that we’re not even aware about. This is a pretty phenomenal thing! The fact that we all have that ability too, is pretty freaking amazing!
It’s like that poplar saying, Always smile because you never know who’s falling in love with your smile or who your making happy. It’s so true! You never know who you can be quietly inspiring without even knowing or trying!
This past weekend made me very thankful that I started this blog, that there’s girls out there it can inspire and that my efforts aren’t going unnoticed. That my 23 year journey of pageantry didn’t go unnoticed. That someone else’s struggles and dark moments in their own journey can lighten the path of another. The lives we live, the things we go through, good and bad, sometimes are not meant JUST for individual growth but to maybe help another.
It was a weekend full of giving and receiving inspiration, a weekend of being right where he intended me to be.
I hope you had a moment of inspiration this weekend too! Maybe it was being inspired to get out of the house and get some yard work done, big or small, who knows, but some inspiration.
Congratulations to all of the contestants for doing such a phenomenal job at Mrs. Texas especially our new beautiful queen Kaylyn! Congratulations to Grayson County CAC for hosting such a phenomenal gala this year and to Jenna Quinn for such an inspiring, heartwarming, and admirable speech and presence for so many!
If someone’s been an Inspiration to you… tell them! Let them know how inspiring they’ve been to you, the feeling you’ll give them and the feeling you’ll have when thanking them for being a light to you is very gratifying and fulfilling!
Happy Monday Mom Queens
