Last-minute vacations are simply THE BEST.
Probably because it’s not filled with a ton of planning or packing stress. It usually comes at a time when you’ve hit a point and realize you need a break, so the timing is most likely when you need it most. You and or your family need it most, and this was the case for us.
My husband and I were feeling a little bad that the kids really haven’t gone on a summer vacation all summer, besides the lake every weekend. I know they’ve got it rough Lol right? Lol Rough life. ?
But all the kids go back to school and the first thing they all talk about is what they did over the summer and more importantly, where they went. My kids have a pretty freaking remarkable life, this I know. They live in vacation mode every weekend really lol. But we were feeling guilty about our upcoming adult little trip and having to travel for work so much; it made us realize they haven’t been anywhere since spring break, vacation wise.
So on Wednesday night, my husband booked us a trip to The Cayman Islands leaving Friday morning! 36 hours to pack and close up work for the long weekend.
My husband and I have been there before, shortly after we were married so about 12 years ago, we stayed at The Ritz back then but we weren’t that big of fans, so we knew we wanted to try something different and go with somewhere a little more accepting of kiddos. Now we’ve stayed at The Ritz in a lot of locations love them, but just not a fan personally of the one in Grand Caymans, so I was ok with trying something new this time, so we went with The Westin.
You can’t beat its location and room accesses to the 7 mile long beach. Their staff was friendly, lots of kids so the kids had a blast! The food was decent, the drinks were strong and they were more than willing to help make us happy and accommodating in any way.
The one thing I forgot about the Caymans over the years is the currency exchange rate! Eek! You pay all week in CI, but when you check out you realize our dollar is only 80 cents to theirs. When your talking about a kid that drinks a dozen virgin mudslides a day, and another that finds just as much fun in the gift shop as on the beach, Ouch! That exchange rate really hits you. Lol. But it’s a vacation.
It probably wouldn’t hurt so bad IF we wouldn’t of booked so last minute. Right? No doubt but for my husband and I that’s tough. So we actually always do this. With his job it’s just almost impossible because there is never a good time to go vacation NEVER so planning is impossible. He also doesn’t have the pleasure of missing more than 2 or 3 days max. I can’t remember going anywhere that long if it wasn’t over a holiday. There’s always issues at work in some way or another, and people think running your own business is so convenient! Lol Nope!
He also respects my new little Mom Queen venture and knows I don’t want to miss a Mom Queen Boutique Live if I don’t have too, I enjoy it, so he set it up perfectly so we could jet out the next morning.
Him running a huge business, me running 40 properties and Mom Queen with the kiddos our stress, schedules, and pressure can max out. This was such a well deserved and needed break. Even though financially we weren’t prepared, I am a budgeter to the penny, but this was worth every penny!
The quick direct flight, less than 3 hours you just can’t beat it. We arrived about 2pm Friday In the Caymans went straight to the pool/beach and didn’t leave it until 10pm! Yes! I can’t tell you a time we’ve ever done this and we beach vacation a LOT of places, usually we go up and change for dinner in the evening but this we did once there. We just CHILLED. We played, ate, drank, drank some more and just CHILLED and it was SO nice. ,
I can honestly count about 2 maybe 3 days a week that I barely even get to say more than a dozen words to my husband without the kids or work occupying all the time, or me with my side biz spending late nights in my office and climbing into bed long after he falls asleep for his early 4 am wake up. Even though we live in the same house, LIFE and our Demands gets priority most of the time. So this was nice, so very, very nice!
Other than swimming with the Sting Rays and having all you can eat Lobster at Deckers Saturday night we just CHILLED! Which by the way, totally recommend both if you find yourself headed to Grand Cayman.
I got a few dozen girls that loved my suit choices, esp this one. Well Queens, your going to really love that it’s only $25! Yes I said 25 bucks! Yep, your welcome! lol Here is the direct link if you like to order:
Last-minute vacations are just the best for so many reasons I think, primarily because I think sometimes the unexpected brings you what you really need at the moment. Thankful for this time out, and Thankful for my hubby for pulling the trigger, and for my boys for such a great time!
Mom Queens, if you ever find yourself or your partner debating that last minute vacay… my advice is to just do it! Life’s too short … drink the umbrella drinks, soak up the sun, play in the sand, splurge on that family dinner, take the vacation!
Every now and then you need, or at least someone to tell you that you deserve it!
Now back to work to recoup the kids tuition I just spent on umbrella drinks! ;)- JK
Happy Tuesday Mom Queens, that feels like a Monday!
