Oh Boy, Oh Boy… My Boys are headed to their first overnight church camp for a week and getting them ready has been a JOB itself!
Getting their camp TRUNKS ready has been more work then getting THEM ready!
What ever happened to grab your sleeping bag and throw some things in a backpack?
PINTEREST! That’s what happened!
OMG!! You know it used to be this way until us MOM’S discovered Pinterest and took it to A WHOLE OTHER LEVEL!
Holy Cow, and you know off course the rest of us now feel this to be the new “STANDARD” and off course we don’t want our babies to be the one without a “COOL” trunk like the rest of the kids with “Cool” Moms.
OMG! lol! This has been a chore, and I’ll be darned if my babies don’t have the coolest freaking trunks too! 😉 SO bandwagon, this Mama is on board and on a time crunch, so with the fact that this Mama CAN draw and a day of clicking away and adding to my basket, BAM! Watch out Pinterest Camp Mama’s… This Mama’s looking for that invisible “best trunk by mom award” too! ;)- haha!
All jokes aside though, I’m seriously not kidding on this one, my son’s camp hosted MOM MEETINGS on all the tips and tricks and “UNLISTED” items the fancy kid camper would find helpful! No JOKE! Meetings! lol FOR PACKING! Let me see where I fit that one in…. hmmm. Yep, nope.
But I did cheat! One of my girlfriends went and snapped some pics for me! (I’m smarter than I look, I know. Ha-ha.) Shower Caddy’s, Bunk Bed Fans, Shower Flip Flops, Daily Snack Bag and Toy Delivery Ideas, and enough Gallon Ziplock Baggies to save the PLANET! Heck this ISN’T CAMPING, THIS IS GLAMPING and I WANNA GO NOW! Treats, Fun, and a TRUNK FULL of all NEW “STUFF” Sign me up!
Like I said with my crazy schedule I wanted to make it as easy as this not so easy task could get, and not crazy expensive too. Fact is these trunks are pricey. Blank they are still pricey! Hire a fabulous Pinterest Mom to make one for you, well even MORE pricey! Crazy $$$. So I got my trunks from the link below, basic but with wheels because Mom & Dad I’m told have to carry it.
Crazy thing is our family business actually MANUFACTURES these so it really made me green in the face buying one when I could’ve got one from work! BUT NOOO… what kid wants the basic black? NOPE! They all want fun colors (I don’t blame them, when someone offers to organize me for this GLAMPING sign me up for pink please!) ;)- So colors it was. I got the trunks straight to my door in a few days:
It made me more comfortable knowing they will have these trunks for 6-10 years so they will get their money worth in use!
After they came my cheat notes from my girlfriend’s Mom Meetings suggested putting their name and favorite bible verse on them. Some kids were in Decals, some painted. Since I can draw I grabbed the paint I already had. Instead of me hand drawing letters I came up with the idea I did my sons nursery in: his name is VAN so I had painted the VANS logo that went in as a room border in his nursery above his crib. I used thick duct tape so I wouldn’t have to worry about straight lines. Then just penciled around it, pulled of the tape and painted away. Now Trae’s with the curve of the R I just had to hand paint without stencil. Walla! Easy and Quick! I had these both done in an hour! I used Acrylic Paint.
After they dried I let the boys pick out stickers of things they love most. They all came in a huge variety pack I only had to get 3. Fort Nite, Polaris, Supreme, Lego, Adidas. Done! The next day they were here and I let the boys sticker them up, but also save room for the years ahead of memory BUNK stickers they’ll add from every camp and bunk every year! The thought of this made me smile!
After stickering was the BIG chore! It took me a full day EACH kid to get their trunk packed! From Bedding, to Swim trunks, Theme night outfits, PJ’s, Toiletries, Towels, Water Shoes, Clothes for 6 Days and all the extras… and yes we did do a shower caddy too! 😉 It was A LOT! A HUGE chore as well! Another day of clicking for what we don’t have we were zip locking away BUT I drew the LINE at Custom Name Labels. No ma’am. Sharpie works just fine for this mama.
2 Full days of just packing and organizing for the boys. I labeled each bag by number so they can just pull by number. Entire outfits together along with socks in a bag. Entire Theme Night Costumes all together with the THEME and accessories all in the same zip lock, unless the extra items were to big. Pajamas along with underwear so all they have to do is pull a PJ pack, grab their fancy shower caddy filled with all their toiletries including those fancy shower flip flops, along with their towel and off to the showers!
Everything organized. Left side of the trunk days in order 1-6, middle with PJ’s 1-6 and a complete beach bag back pack that is packed and ready, and Theme nights in order 1-6 on right side. Bedding IN their Laundry bags so all we have to do is pull it out and hang it on their bed for their dirty clothes when we set them up. I got these fancy Trunk Lid organizers to save room in the trunk and so they can easily find their bibles, journals, pens, bug spray, extra socks and underwear, and even family photos.
After doing this now I know why all those crazy list and the need for 3 BOXES of gallon zip locks… because if I didn’t let’s face it, I have boys, they probably wouldn’t care if they changed or changed their underwear or gave up looking for it in their trunk after 3 seconds and never change them all week! This makes it easy and less stressful for them being away, especially as a crazy OCD mom that does a lot of these things for them. Camp will be nice, to teach them a little responsibility and independence.
Their Trunk Lid Organizers I found at Everything Summer Camp perfect to hold their pens, pictures, bibles, journals, and the little extras.
Just because it’s their first year, I did do the cards for every day so they get mail every morning delivered to them. Snack and special treat bags for every night from us, and one pre ordered through the camp. I didn’t want them to go without their very first year. So yea, maybe I joined the crazy Pinterest Mom Wagon, but after doing all this for them like Moms do, it will make me feel better as I’m BALLING MY EYES OUT on my few hours home after dropping them off.
Yes this has been a chore, it’s been crazy and stressful to get them ready. But you know what? I never got to do things like this when I was a kid. I never went to camp with friends, we didn’t have the means to do all that but now I have the ability to offer my boys this AMAZING growing opportunity, and how FUN is that!
So worth it, every penny, every gray hair, every gallon zip lock bag.
If you’re sending your kiddos of to camp, be prepared to empty your pockets a bit and STRESS out as you prep them to go, or at least just SAVE yourself and stay away from Pinning while you do! 😉 There are always Mom Meetings if you need! 😉 Ha-ha!
We are READY TO ROCK! Bibles, Journals, Flash Lights and All! These boys are ready! Mom and Dad NOT so much!
I hope this gives you some ideas on packing and helpful items if you’re a camp mom, a club I’m happy to join this year. Please also share any ideas, EXCEPT the custom name labels where I draw the line ;)-. JK.
What a blessing for our kiddos! THIS MAMA IS GONNA BE A MESS SUNDAY!
Happy Friday Mom Queens!
