Are you to ”Pageant Patty”?
Can it hurt being too “Pageanty” Prepared?
Being Pageant Patty is when you’re so seasoned in pageantry that you tend to answer with the typical “pageant” answers and walk the stage with that plastered smile and do the same poses as every other Sparkling Patty on stage.
Why do they call her Patty?
I have no idea. Lol. I have no idea where the term stems from but it reminds me of the 80’s pageant days with the glam, glitz and curls. It totally puts a visual of the old show Dallas in my mind and I have no idea why. ;)-
BUT point here: times have changed. Changed, and changed again. So change it up. People like fresh! People like something different because it’s REFRESHING!
So can choosing those typical save the world, Patty rehersed perfect answers, and that plastered smile hurt you in terms of judging?
Depends on your judges! Every judge is different.
A judge with experience in the Sparkle world can pick this up, but maybe someone not involved in the Sparkle world can’t even tell, or maybe they can.
One judge may not but another it may get on their last nerve. Guess which I am? Lol. Can you tell. ;)-
I judge a lot now a days with my credentials and as much as I don’t like judging because I hate telling someone ”sorry it’s not time for your dream”, because gosh that is how I take it. It’s like a stake in the heart and giving that stake to so many, but ONE. It stinks. BUT I DO love the Sparkle world and I do love seeing the growth in so many. There are a lot of reasons I do enjoy being involved in someones happy tears the moment she takes that first walk on stage with her crown and flowers. I’m super proud to think, I was a very small piece of that, That’s warming!
My point was this past year I’ve seen a Pageant Patty or two, well maybe a few more than two and I wasn’t the only judge that felt that way.
Being prepared is the best advice I could ever give. Prepared for anything that can come your way in the interview room or any wardrobe or stage malfunction. Be prepared.
BUT sometimes those mishaps happen for a REASON to show your human! To show the real you, less Patty. To show how you can handle the unexpected. Ladies, this can be a GOOD thing.
Maybe that small slip on stage gave you a little different facial expression or a giggle after you recovered so well that the judges noticed and liked seeing a change from the constant smile.
You may have impressed them as well on how well you handled it. Sometimes those mishaps happen, those things we can’t practice or rehearse for and it’s not all that bad.
Another very good way to avoid the Patty in us all, because all of that are well prepared and season have a little of her in us, is in your DELIVERY!
The old saying:
It’s not what you say but HOW you say it!
Your DELIVERY can change everything. That’s why I think it’s always important to practice with more than one person. To get feedback.
The way you DELIVER in your voice and tone, as well is in your body language on stage can make ALL the difference!
For instance in real life, the Boss B* in me has a very harsh delivery. I’m in a tough man-filled business when it comes to sub contractors and service men. When it comes to the people I have to handle in my profession, it’s so hard because it is business and I have to leave all emotions out. It’s like subconsciously I feel like I have to be hard and harsh for people to take me seriously. When I really don’t. Sometimes yes it’s called for but most of the times it’s not. It’s something my husband brings to my attention “take it easy babe” and I try. It’s something I’m constantly working on. I’m also super busy and get straight to the point and sometimes that can create the wrong delivery. Where as my husband has managed THOUSANDS and he has the delivery ability to let someone go while making them feel like a million bucks! Crazy, but it’s all in the delivery!
It’s in the delivery girls, your delivery determines How you CAN make someone FEEL!
On stage and in the Interview room.
So wether you worry you may be to prepared or think that maybe you do have a tiny little seasoned Patty in you, because let’s face it if your a Sparkle girl that’s competed a time or two we all do, no worries. We all have a little Patty in us because we’re prepared. That’s not all a bad thing, that’s a good thing.
Just make sure you spend some time paying attention to your DELIVERY! On and off stage. It can really make a difference!
Also Remember, When those mishaps happen because they do to the best of us… DON’T worry girl! There could be a fresh silver lining there. It’s Ok!! Handle it like a Sparkle Queen you are with Grace, a small giggle and smile and keep going girl!
So back to my question, do you think being too Pageant Patty can hurt? If you ask me, no because it’s it’s all in the power of your delivery!
If your a SPARKLE girl competing I hope this little tip can help you (and the Patty in you, hehe ) prepare you for your next time to SPARKLE and SHINE!
Happy Thursday Mom Queens!
