For those that have had the chance to read Part 1, let’s start with the Why!
WHY Should you try and obtain Sponsors for your pageant?
The first is obvious, and in every SPARKLE, girls favor: it lessens the financial burden of competing. It’s no secret that pageants are an expensive hobby, so finding sponsors will soften the strain on your pocketbook and the financial stress it can put on your family.
Another reason you should obtain sponsors is because it shows your MARKETABLE to the brand!
Directors and Judges can see you already have the knowledge and courage to market and grow their brand. They can see your WILLING & MOTIVATED to do the job!
Already having sponsors shows the systems you are ready, equipped, and experienced to grow their brand WITH them.
After all, if you read part 1, your SPARKLY Self should be their most significant marketing asset if you were to win that crown.
Another is MORE EXPOSURE!
More exposure for you, the sponsor, the brand, and for your future SPARKLE sisters/contestants! Having sponsors gets your face more out there. It gives you more experience, more practice being in front of people, and the chance to BE SEEN. Giving you more highlights to post on your social media feeds for those judges to see before the competition even begins! Exposure.
Bottom line ladies, Sponsors are a great benefit to you, the system you are competing for, and to chance for them grow and market their own product/service. It’s a way to increase exposure for all three. It’s a win-win all around IF everyone does their part! This is why I stress the importance of reading Part 1 of this sponsor series: Sponsor Expectations.
Now that you know the distinct ways and the undisclosed ways having sponsors can help you in your journey to the crown let’s talk HOW you get Sponsors!
Girls, I say this over and over again…
Sounds silly right? You would be surprised how many girls are afraid to ask, though!
Ask, Ask, and Ask again!
You never know unless you ask, the least they can say is No. Then you move on and ask the next!
It’s sales girls, your simply selling yourself and your capabilities! What do you think a judges interview is, your selling yourself/ convincing those judges to pick you for the job! So don’t discredit your abilities! Ask those sponsors to choose you for a job they don’t realize they need you for just yet, but they do! 😉 And you should be the one to convince them they do!
The greatest mistake I see girls in this topic do is sell themselves short. Why would they want to sponsor me? For a pageant? Girls, you need to give yourself more credit!
I used to think the very same thing until I saw my very first sponsor BENEFIT from sponsoring me that had ASKED to sponsor me because back then, I was frankly to shy or embarrassed to ask. Boy things have changed for me, lol.
Girls you’re in pageant! You are beautiful! You are out in your community! You are ambitious for wanting more! And hopefully, if you are going for a crown, your ethically a good person! (Hey you never know, had to throw that last one in there 😉 jk) YOU are every marketing departments, ideal spokesperson. Your a walking, exposed billboard for them to advertise through by simply donating! Donating their product, service, or monetary donation.
Heck girls, these qualities will make you an instant hire for a sales position! You are a sales/marketing girl without being on their payroll; promoting yourself, their product, and the brand.
Girls it’s sales, and our life is about sales and marketing. Selling, sharing, promoting ourselves, and our likes out to the world this is marketing.
Heck, look at social media, it’s exactly that… marketing. Sharing pictures of ourselves, our likes, etc… promoting and marketing you! It’s easier than it looks Sparkle Queens and you are doing it already without even knowing, so why not let it help YOU, while you help them! 😉
There are SO many ways you can solicit sponsors!
Draft a letter asking what you are looking for and have it ready to send to any prospect. Mass email it out in your community! Share it with your friends to see if they know any business owners that would like to benefit from your marketing capabilities!
Post that letter on your social media, make cards and attend a networking brunch, get out there it’s easier than it seems. But most importantly ask! You have to be willing to ASK. Whether that be in person (and that should be ideal so they can see your pretty face), on the phone, or through networking ask, or hey even through DM’s now a days! Ask!
Ask until your blue in the face. Being Formerly in sales, I know it always felt like I had to ask 100 people to get one YES!
So ask away, and when you do get that yes! You do get that Sponsor, don’t be afraid to ask them for a referral when your doing a great job! A referral of another sponsor!
Now here are some more essential tips to market your sponsors so they get their ROI. You have a year to get their investment in you returned and here are some tips on how you can easily market your Sponsors! Don’t be afraid to share with them these fantastic ways you can market them through the year as well when your trying to pitch them!
Easy ways you can SPARKLE while making your SPONSORS SPARKLE:
- Offer to put them in your OFFICIAL ad or give them their own ad in the program book!
- Check with the director on this one: but some systems let you mark up ads and sell them just as advertisements in the program book. Girls use the proceeds to help with their expenses. I’ve seen several girls at states do this. Sell extra adds.
- Offer them a space on your autograph cards
- Wear their products and services at your pageant (this goes for ON and OFF the stage!)
- Wear their products and services regularly throughout your reigns
- Give them a monthly sponsor shout out on your social media’s.
- Refer them clients/customers
- Consistently tag them on your social media post and images throughout the year
- Drop in to say a simple Hello or Thank You when you’re in their area
- If they are a service provider allow them to use your before and after pictures for their advertising
- Offer to sign autograph cards at their establishment or events
- Social Media, Social Media, Social Media! Share their post, tag them, like their pages, market their handles and pages. This is where it should be easy and most beneficial.
- Always, Always, give them credit and appreciation to assure their generosity doesn’t go unnoticed.
Girls the list is endless! I could keep going because there are so many ways these sponsors can utilize you to grow and market their businesses. Share these ways you can help market them and it should be a no-brainer for them to ofer their sponsor to you IF their financially able. YOU need to convince them of how beneficial it will be for them, but you first must ASK!
