It’s that time of year when we start wearing shorts, skirts, all the cute stuff, but with that comes showing off our now white winter legs!
This winter and fall I was using those awesome tan towels and frankly tan towels won’t cut it for the start of spring for this tall girl this time of year. This white girl doesn’t want to scare everybody off the beginning of swimsuit season so this time of year I do spray tan, not to mention May seems full of events that require dresses.
This weekend is also full of events for me, The Mrs. Texas pageant is this weekend and as a former I’m always happy to go down to support and help where I can. It’s also The Children’s Advocacy Center Gala this weekend so I have a weekend full of dresses and showing these legs off that have been hiding for months, so yesterday it was time for the spray tan!
I’ve tried all SORTS of spray tan techniques. The DIY at home tan in a bottle, buying my own spray machine and tent, the automatic spray machine booths, I’ve tried them all. To me, nothing beats having a custom individual spray tan! I love the tan towels for just legs or touch ups here and there but for an entire body tan I always go with the custom indivisible spray by a tanning expert.
There’s so much that they can control when it’s personally done. They artist can make sure everything is evenly covered, a booth can not. I also love the attention to detail, like for instance my legs are always several shades lighter than my body, so I normally have them do my legs a little darker to even out the color. When competing I also think it’s really cool when someone has a lot of experience and the ability to gently contour your body for competition. Be careful with this though, they really have to be experienced for this to work. I’ve had a girl do it on my abs, upper arms, and legs once before, you could barely tell but it was really cool the small detail it added for competition.
Spray tanning to me gives me a little spring time boost of confidence to wear those clothes that require showing skin without so much insecurity. To me if I missed the gym, there’s nothing better than going to get a spray tan. It’s like a good spray tan is a quick cure for all. It’s amazing how something so small could maybe perk up your spirits.
I’ve had a lot of friends ask me about what I do to tan besides in the summer when it’s just natural from being in the sun so much. I always refer my local friends to the my favorite custom spray spot that’s close to my home so it’s super convenient. What I love most about them is spray tanning IS ALL they do! I think that’s really important, not just in tanning but for every field. When they specialize in just that field and that’s all they, odds are you’ll have better results from their expertise.
You have to find somewhere or someone you love because frankly girls your getting in your skimpiest and showing them a WHOLE lot of you, so you need to be comfortable with them. I don’t tan completely nude I either bring a small thong that I know will hide under all swim suit lines or I use one of what they call disposable “underwear”! Lol Seems to me their “underwear” is missing most of the “wear” part! ;)- But it does the job, I use one of these and go topless. If you do wear yours and/or a top they can spray them, don’t worry it washes out.
The color I chose is a medium tone. I also a “one hour additive” so instead of waiting to shower for 8-12 hours. The one hour additive lets you shower in one hour for light tone, two hour medium tone, and three hours for a dark tone. I find if I wait the three hours it’s a little darker for the first two days but the tan last all week! So I shower in 3 for the one hour additive. You can also do scent boosters if you like, I can’t stand the smell of spray tan, my husband actually hates the smell too! That’s why I do the 3 hr, I can’t sleep if I try too with the smell. I want it completely washed off and the smell worn off before I got to bed. Some say some solutions are odorless, but to me and my sensitive sense of smell I have not found one that doesn’t stink to me! Believe me I’ve tried SO many especially with doing pageants for 22 years! They all smell! So the one hour additive is the way to go. The bronzer is very strong too until you shower but it washed off first rinse.
If your new to the spray tan game here are some helpful Tips for Tanning:
- Shave and exfoliate before hand
- Do not put lotion on prior to tanning so solution better absorbs
- Use a tan blocker on your hands, and feet, like Vaseline or they have specific tan blocking solution so you don’t have weird knuckle creases or wrist creases.
- Lotion every night and morning after to prolong tan
- Wear lose fitting clothes after while drying.
Mom Queens, I don’t know about you but to me sometimes a tan can fix everything! ;)- It really can lift my spirit and confidence in the start of spring after hiding all winter under fabric. I hope some of these tips may help if your a new spray tanner, and if your a tanning veteran I hope this gives you a little motivation to get out there and get your spray tan on girl, boost that confidence and feel great this spring showing off all those cute outfits!
Happy FRI-YAY Mom Queens!
