Have you heard of Ted?
Yesterday I was invited to my first ever Ted Talk in Flowermound by OnFire Books! This was SUCH a life-changing experience in so many ways.
Before this week, I had never even heard of a Ted Talk. I had no idea what they were! When asking around and after posting a picture of me there, I realize A LOT of people, like me, didn’t really either.
So today I wanted to share a little STRENGTH by sharing my experience of my first Ted Talk visit.
No, I did not speak. I was invited to come and watch since I wasn’t familiar, to see if I would be Interested in being a speaker for next year. After my experience, I definitely plan to be on the Ted Talk Stage sharing my message without a sparkly crown, for me!
I sat in the front row close up and prepared for the long day. Although once they begin, its very intimidating just knowing you can’t get up to use the restroom, move much, or reach for your phone. Just knowing I can’t have a bathroom break, makes me need to have a bathroom break lol! Trying to control my ADD I thought and my bathroom breaks was going to be tough! Lol. But after I got over that mindset and settled in for 8 hour day of watching 17 INCREDIBLE speakers sharing their OWN testimonies, of their own lives, I was hooked!
From a young millionaire entrepreneur, to a Widowed Christian making a difference for the Homeless, to a mother of a daughter with Leukemia, to a mom that was robbed of her hope surviving liver cancer, to a professional athlete that was raised by a drug-influenced father, to a woman who survived sexual abuse, and even just a regular man with just regular everyday problems trying to navigate through everyday life. I was moved by EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!
I laughed, I cried, I was happy, I was sad, I was scared, I also was humbled and humiliated for a moment. There was SO MUCH emotion, yet so much INSPIRATION in one room!
It was amazing, and I was moved. But I learned a few VERY important things! This is what I wanted to share with you.
1. How you have more in common with someone that you may think! There was SOMETHING in every one of those speakers that I could connect with! Every one of them!
2. That we all have scars. We all have bruises. Overcoming the hurt that follows them is only the beginning of healing. The real healing process follows after. The REAL healing process is when you’re scars are healed and you can OVERCOME the EMOTIONAL FEAR and ACCEPT your hurt and GROWTH that follows. Letting others grow WITH You.
3. How healing and talking about your experiences can really inspire and change someone ELSE’S life. THAT IS what we’re here for, to help someone else! Ted Talks is an amazing way to do this.
So last year I came out of my shell more than I ever have, and its a scary thing. A very scary thing. I give major props to those speakers, they have a level of bravery most of us don’t possess.
It takes a lot to get up there and share your story. But after last year going around speaking at Boys and Girls Clubs and Women’s Shelters across the US and organizations similar over seas, I did this in a very similar fashion but with a sparkly microphone, my crown and title, not on a red dot. Not to the level and depth of a Ted Talk.
But the one thing I left my first Talk with, that you have to be in that room to FEEL is the inspiration those 17 speakers gave me and everyone there!
I look forward to exploring this new passion and I wanted to share with you, that if you EVER have an opportunity just to go watch a Ted Talk PLEASE do so! For you!
Go and be inspired!
These people are changing the world one talk at a time! You can watch Ted Talks online, but nothing compares to attending with the emotions and experiences that are felt like being in that room!
Google Ted Talks in your area and try one! I can promise you’ll walk away with more than your tickets worth! I did!
I pray Ted Talks are in my future! Because I felt like I was with my people, talk about surrounding yourself with inspirational people you would like to be like, THIS is a very easy way to do that! I was floored!
I hope you find a little Strength and inspiration in a TedTalk you can connect with! I know I have.
Happy Weekend Mom Queens!
