Ok. So I’ve said it before I know, I don’t pageant coach. I get asked a lot but I always politely decline for so many reasons my schedule being the prime. BUT again LOVE giving out some free tips and advice I feel that can help ANY SPARKLE girl through my over 20 years of working with the best, past and present, competing with some of the best, and winning some very competitive titles.
My little niece is starting to find a passion in the SPARKLE world and until she knows if it’s really for her, I’ve been helping her prepare. Well because she’s family and because my Father In Law is probably not going to accept my No for an answer frankly, I’ve been helping her just a little on what to expect. The fact that I absolutely adore her AND the mere thought that maybe her watching me SPARKLE has had a little inspiration on her desire too… helps too! 😉 I threw the towel in and was in full pageant mom mode yesterday packing her up. Lol
Oh Thank Goodness I don’t have girls… My poor hubby 😉
Anyway yesterday as I was packing her I explained what and how interview works. This will be her first interview. She’s very shy and reserved so trying to get her out of her shell is tough. She kept answering practice questions in the tone as if she was answering AS a question. Meaning doubting her answer was right.
This and on top of a few messages I woke up too this morning from ladies competing at the moment at Mrs. International made me think of one very important tip that would help EVERY SPARKLE girl at ANY stage shine in interview:
REALIZE THERE IS NO WRONG ANSWER!
Listen, THEY are asking YOU questions about YOU. They don’t know the answer, they don’t know YOU, they are trying too. No one knows the right answer but YOU.
They are not asking you Math Facts, History Dates, or Statistics. So there CAN NOT be a wrong answer. Period.
Now, IF YOU throw one of those out there in your answer, then yes there could be. For the most part they are asking QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU!
Tell me about yourself, are you having fun, what’s your favorite color, why did you chose your platform, what’s your favorite food, what’s the first thing you’ll do if, yada yada yada
All Questions on what YOU have done, will do, how you feel, what you like, what you don’t.
How COULD they EVER know they are wrong?! They are not you.
So GO WITH IT!
Don’t ever doubt your answers are wrong because unless YOU tell them they are they would have NO clue!
Unless your tone changes or it causes you to second guess your answer in your head and you get thrown off, they would never know. So just keep talkin’! 😉
You can not possibly have the wrong answer about…you.
99.9% of the time IF you have an interview you fill out a judges bio, an application, something answering questions about you. So answer them with honesty and integrity and you will be just fine! There couldn’t possibly be a wrong answer. If you do so, when they ask you questions, your answers ARE those answers naturally.
So many girls can walk out of interview second questioning themselves and how it went. Myself included, especially when I was younger.
I can’t even count how many times I’d run the scenarios through my head or think “Gosh, why didn’t I use or say this or that instead” but the realization is that judge WOULD NOT and COULD NOT EVER Know the difference!
So stop second guessing yourselves ladies. Realize there is NO wrong answer!
Realizing this very small fact can make a HUGE improvement in your interview skills. It will make you less nervous, more confident, and give you the ability to steer the interview in the path you choose about YOU!
This Sunday I’ll be helping my Texas America Sister Queens prepare for their national interviews with some mock interviews and this is one valuable and simple tip I’ll be sharing with them, because there’s so much freedom in realizing this small truth.
If your a SPARKLE girl I hope this small tip in truth can help you SHINE and feel a little more comfortable walking IN and OUT of interview.
I know I’ll be trying to convince my sweet little niece this the whole way to West Virginia the week ahead. 😉
Happy Thursday Mom Queens!
