Have you ever felt it’s you against the clock the entire day? I can’t be the only one. You’ve got dozens of things on your to-do list you need to check off for the day and you are racing the clock to get them done.
This is me. Everyday!
Let me share with you my daily roles:
As a mom – I’m the train that keeps us moving. From kid’s school events, to not forgetting show and tells, packing backpacks, preparing for the next day every day while attending and making sure today’s kids task are complete.
As a boss/property manager- I’ve got WAY to many toilets to ensure are flushing and too many tenants to worry about if their paying their bills. Making sure everyone’s needs are met within reason and that proper paperwork, protocols, and legalities are always in place. Move in’s/move out’s/ repairs/ licenses/ sub contractors/ evictions/ complaints/ eekkk! This list is crazy. The surprises a day can bring are endless!
As a wife to a CEO- I run the household so he can focus on what pays for our daily comfort and family’s security. From dinners, paying bills, financial planning, family schedules, maintaining the house, making sure we have food in the fridge, kids sports, schooling and doctors, really this list is endless but you get it, and I DO NOT go to bed with dishes in the sink (pet peeve of mine, I wish it wasn’t).
As a Broker- I always have a side deal usually in the works too, if not I have licensing, continuing education, insurances, etc… to maintain.
As an advocate- I’m always helping and volunteering right now I’m currently mult- tasking while calling for donations for this years CAC Gala while I write.
As an entrepreneur- My Blogging and Online Boutique I absolutely LOVE that I want to eventually make BIGGER than my career now and trump over all of these roles besides my family, I have to put in the time and love to make and grow it.
There’s So many more roles too.. OMG! My writing, helping my son and his business, trying to stay fit, Oh my Gosh the list is endless! It’s a wonder my head doesn’t pop off some days! Do you ever feel that way? I know I’m not the only one.
That there is not enough time in day to get all your task done, to give to everyone, to give to yourself? Before you know it its bed time and your race was defeated by the clock.
If your a mom I know you HAVE to have felt this way. I was going to do a SPARKLE blog today in honor of my son and World Autism Day, but I’ll have to save that for tomorrow because just as I was taking my 30 minutes to myself today to run my once a week 5K at lunch, I had 17 new work text messages and 7 missed calls from kids doctors, insurance agents, etc! The beeps kept disturbing my running, killing my adrenaline vibe I was getting from my play list. 30 minutes you all! Just 30 minutes!
It made me think. Recently my husband made a comment that I should play with the kids outside in the evenings this week, that a lot of our neighbors have been outside because of the nice weather I can get the chance to meet them. Yea… me too. Tell that to my clock. Instead I’m in my office after work, still working to finish my to do list. To feed my passion, feed all my roles, feed my existing career while I try and build my empire, my dream.
I’ve been thinking about this comment all week. You see at first I was a little hurt or feeling hard on myself that maybe I don’t give enough time to ALL those things, all those roles, all those people. That 90% of the time the clock defeats me, everyday.
Today as I ran, I was listening to a motivational rap song by Dr. Thomas ( highly recommend BTW it’s motivational pieces put to workout rhythm – genius!) Made me think with some of his lyrics. My personality always needs the push factor, the strive factor. Heck one of the reasons I stared this blog was becuase I had time free up after last year and I started focusing on some negative things at work because I had the extra time to do so. I actually feel that if you’re not racing the clock and you have extra time, you have extra time to focus on the negative. The opposite of being productive. The opposite of racing the clock.
Staying busy keeps me PUSHING. Keeps me on the right track. Having all those roles makes me thankful I have things to push for!
Truth is I have one person in all roles in my life to delegate and help me. ONE! ONLY ONE! IF ANY! At work, I have a full time maintenance man, At home I have my hubby, and with the kids I have a sitter for some. Other than that it’s all me, even while delegating some I’m still driving the train to race the clock.
So what can we do to feel better about racing with our worse enemy everyday, time? How can we better give to every role in your life? Make everyone Happy?
During today’s run, which is why I decided to blog about this, I found a helpful answer:
GIVE OURSELVES CREDIT for the the things WE DO achieve! The things we check off our list! Give YOURSELF credit for having that ROLE itself! CELEBRATE that you are racing the clock and that You have positive things to push for! REMEMBER that there’s always tomorrow to race again for the things you did not get to finish!
REALIZE that you’re only one person. That there’s going to be days that you let one somebody down. There’s one roll that maybe you put over the rest, and you let one down. Maybe you let your husband down, maybe let your kids down, maybe let your work down, maybe let yourself down. Your just ONE person Sister!
You didn’t have enough time to give to everyone and that’s OK. You always have tomorrow to make it up to them! What you need to do is give yourself credit for what you did get done, Those people that you did make happy, Focus on that and make up for what you couldn’t tomorrow. Be thankful that you are a person that has roles and people that rely on you, because if you had the opposite I don’t think many of us would be happy. That’s how we can feel better on being daily defeated by the clock.
I hope you had a few wins today and that you celebrate them! I know I checked a few things off my list today, and for whatever is left I always have tomorrow to make up for it. I think I’ll play outside today and be a good neighbor! ;)-
Happy Tuesday Mom Queens!
